Private Investigator Training has changed and JAMES WINTER ASSOCIATES is on the cutting edge of progress. We continue to provide our respected Private Investigator Training Course online in a Zoom classroom in association with Investigations Toronto. Our Zoom class includes the instructor and classmates in a live, face to face format.

The Zoom course offered by Investigations Toronto and James Winter is approved by the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General and upon completion students will receive a Training Completion Number and will be authorized to write the Ontario Private Investigator Exam.

James Winter collaborates with Investigations Toronto, a highly respected full-service private investigation and training agency to provide the Ontario Private Investigator Training Course. This course is mandated by the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General for all candidates who wish to become licensed private investigators. This 50 hour course is designed to prepare students to write the ministry private investigator's exam. A section of this course is devoted to assisting students to find employment as private investigators and enhance their qualifications.
James Winter has a 100% success rate with training his students to pass the provincial private investigators exam. This extraordinary success is only possible with an experienced investigator and instructor in a classroom setting.

This course is taught in a live Zoom class by James Winter, an experienced and recognized investigator and instructor. A certificate issued by Investigations Toronto will be presented to students upon completion. ​​​

Our Zoom classes are held live with your instructor and classmates all interacting together online in real time. Students require only a webcam and a positive attitude.
You will find remote learning to be convenient and enjoyable. Students have direct access to the instructor with abundant opportunity to ask questions and clarify complex issues. A portion of this course is dedicated to career development and job search guidance.
Students benefit from a small class which enhances learning and access to the instructor and classmates. With the Zoom training course, James Winter has maintained his 100% pass rate of his students who write the provincial private investigators exam.

This is the mandatory 50 hour Private Investigator Training Course which is required by the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General. Anyone wishing to obtain a private investigators license must first complete this course. This course is operated in collaboration with Investigations Toronto (www.investigationstoronto.com) and costs $750 plus HST.

Introduction to the Instructor
The Private Investigator Training Course is being presented by James Winter CPIO-MI.
James Winter is a professional investigator and instructor of investigations. He is formerly an Instructor of Investigations at Conestoga College, where he taught courses in Private Investigations, Professional Ethics and Risk Management.
James has been a private investigator in Ontario and Latin America for 30 years and has held positions such as Investigations Manager and Manager of Special Investigations for some of Ontario’s most prestigious agencies. He is an accomplished surveillance investigator and is a specialist in conducting investigative interviews.
James is certified in the investigation of sexual harassment and sexual violence investigations. He is certified in the detection of deception, interrogations as well as Kinesic interviewing. James is trained in mediation and dispute resolution and holds a certificate as a professional coach.
James Winter is the first-person-ever to be awarded the prestigious Master Investigator designation by the Council of Professional Investigators Ontario. He was previously the Director of Professional Development for the CPIO Board of Directors.
James Winter operates JAMES WINTER ASSOCIATES a consulting agency with offices in Ontario, Mexico and Colombia and provides investigation services to Canadian clients across Latin America. He works in association with Investigations Toronto to provide the Ontario Private Investigator Training Course.

Why Take Our Course?
A career as a private investigator can be interesting, exciting and profitable. In Ontario there is generally a high demand for private investigators and many agencies hire new investigators without experience. It can be said that the private investigation industry is a recession-proof industry because the worse the Canadian economy becomes, the more people look for “alternate forms of income”. Oftentimes these alternate forms of income need to be investigated.
The Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General requires that anyone wishing to become a private investigator must first take a 50-hour private investigator training course and subsequently pass a provincial exam.
A cursory internet search will show that there are several options available for anyone wishing to take the Private Investigator Training Course to become a private investigator in Ontario. The prices of these courses can vary widely. With the variety of courses and prices it is easy to understand how a person could become confused about the credibility and value of a training provider.
There are several reasons why taking the Ontario Private Investigator Training Course from James Winter, (in collaboration with Investigations Toronto), may be right for you:
1. Our course is taught by James Winter in a Zoom classroom with the instructor and classmates all participating in real-time for the entire 50 hours. Our Zoom classroom affords students the opportunity to learn from an expert investigator and instructor as well as to ask questions and clarify complex legal issues. Often the group discussions are the best part of the class. This course is approved by the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General for anyone wishing to write the Ontario Private Investigators Exam.
Other course providers merely upload a series of PDF documents to a website, which the student is expected to read at their convenience. There are no instructors, no classmates and no discussions. There is no one you can ask questions or learn from. At best, they might have an email address or phone number for students to ask questions where a faceless person may or may not respond adequately.
2. James Winter maintains a 100% pass rate of his students who write the provincial exam. This is an unprecedented pass rate which can not be matched by other training providers. Our success is based on our direct contact with students in a Zoom classroom where we meet face-to-face and cover the material as a group. The expert instruction provided by James Winter is an important benefit when preparing to write the provincial exam.
The Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General released information stating that a huge percent of candidates fail the provincial exam after taking training. This high failure rate is the result of improper training offered by training providers that upload PDFs to a website with the only access to an instructor (if any access at all) is through email or telephone calls.
3. Our course is taught by James Winter CPIO-MI, the first person ever to be awarded the prestigious Master Investigator designation by the Council of Professional Investigators Ontario. He is a professional investigator and a professional instructor. James has been a private investigator in Ontario and Latin America for 30 years and was formerly an Instructor of Investigations at Conestoga College. James teaches courses in Private Investigations, Investigative Interviewing, Professional Ethics, Risk Management as well as Surveillance Techniques.
In contrast, you will likely never know the professional experience or qualifications of the person who uploaded the various PDFs at other training providers or the person who may (or may not) answer your emailed or telephoned questions.
4. As part of our training course, we spend considerable time preparing our students for the real-life experiences and the work of private investigators. We explore the career options available to candidates and explain how to reach their goals. We explain when a candidate should consider further specialized training as well as where to obtain that training. James Winter is a well connected private investigator and he assists his students in their job search and continues to offer support long after the course is finished.
Other training providers are unable to offer anything similar as their course fees are so low. Their uploaded PDFs will only cover the bare minimum of the course material and students will receive no insight into the private investigation industry and no advice or support regarding their careers. Once the students have read the uploaded documents, they will be on their own to manage their careers. The overwhelming majority of candidates will not have the connections necessary to find investigator positions and often lose interest in this career as a result of their inability to find additional training or investigator jobs.
5. The course material used by James Winter includes documents, manuals, interesting videos, class discussions and small group discussions. Universally, our students praise the course for being interesting, informative and fun. Other course providers are not able to make the learning interesting or informative as their low prices allow them to offer only the bare minimum required by the Ministry: uploaded PDF documents. There is no instruction, no interaction and no creativity.

Investigations in Latin America for Canadian Clients
JAMES WINTER ASSOCIATES is uniquely qualified to provide investigation services for Canadian clients in Mexico and Latin America. We have physical offices located in Mexico and Colombia that provide a supportive investigation network to ensure we have a significant advantage when conducting investigations in Mexico and Latin America.

We provide our services to Canadian businesses, insurance companies, lawyers and individuals who require investigations throughout Latin America. Our services range from WSIB and insurance surveillance to locating witnesses and missing persons.

Many investigations are centered around the need to obtain original documents. It should be understood that in most jurisdictions in Latin America documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates etc are maintained in government offices or notary offices in paper form. These documents are rarely issued electronically. An investigator will often be required to attend the office in person to make the request and wait for the certified copy to be issued. Having Spanish speaking investigators present in the locality will be essential.

Conducting investigations of any description in Mexico or Latin America must be handled with care and tact. Cultural expectations can be very different and the manner in which the investigation and interviews are carried out can have a direct impact on their eventual success. Unprecedented levels of violence must also be taken into consideration when planning an investigation is certain areas.

Taking the Private Investigator course with James was an incredible experience. Twice I have signed up for those 50 hour online courses/PDF self learning courses and I could never finish them. They are not engaging whatsoever. I personally found them actually so boring I lost interest in finishing them sadly, but never lost the passion to want to be a PI.
With James, he makes the course interesting, it’s absolutely engaging, we had an amazing class and a great group of people, there were laughs, and open forum to ask as many questions as one would want to ask entering the world of private investigation.

I took James Winters Private Investigation Course for many reasons. My circumstances are different to those who have already taken and passed James's course. I am currently from the United Kingdom and in the same industry.
I had previously taken the Canadian Pi licensing course in 2017 with another provider and the material was just PDFs uploaded on to the study page and no support or interactions with the provider. On completion of the course i received no course completion number or no communication from the provider.( Buy cheap -buy twice)
I had seen LinkedIn posts with regards to connections highly recommending James Winter Associates and praising James for his tutoring and their success in passing the exam.
I made contact with James with regards to my circumstances and my intentions of relocating from the United Kingdom. James provided me with sound advice and scheduled a meeting on a public holiday and gave up his time to speak to me at length. On the basis of James's professionalism, honesty and knowledge. I decided to take James's Pi course.James has a friendly unique way and approach to all his students and how the material is delivered. The classes are fun, interactive and very conducive to learning.
I cannot thank James and his team enough for my great experience undertaking the course 7000 miles away remotely. On completion of James course a few hours later i received my course completion number to sit the Ministry exam.
I would highly recommend James Winter Associates over any course provider in the province and value for money. Your not just gaining an Instructor your also gaining a friend.

James is one of the best teachers I have had by far. He encourages you to ask questions, he is available whenever you need to get in touch with him, and he genuinely cares about what you're understanding and what you're not understanding. I once heard that, "A great leader is one who does not set another one up for failure" and this course will prove that.

James was very professional, knowledgeable, and most importantly always made himself available to help or answer any questions I had. My only regret is not taking this course sooner. I took The Private Investigators Training Course offered by James Winter. I was very apprehensive about being able to start a new career as more mature person. However I realized that I had a lot of life experience to offer. James Winter was very encouraging and understood my concerns. In the end it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was worried about classes being on Zoom, but found it very easy. Classes were , interactive, fun and interesting, and as a bonus I met some very cool people. This course also challenged my way of thinking and old beliefs. Focusing on facts rather than emotions. James Winter Associates is the gold standard for Private investigator training. I had the mandatory 50 hours training. I was able to make 90 percent in the test with just that.
